Far Right Attack On Dublin Celtic Supporters Condemned
We would want to use this opportunity to denounce the shameful attack that far-right agitators carried out against Celtic FC supporters yesterday, Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Dublin, Ireland. Prior to this, Celtic fans had socially assembled in a public house to commemorate their beloved team’s 55th Scottish League title and their victory over Dundee United on the road.
An estimated 35 to 50 attendees of an anti-immigration demonstration that was set to end close on Custom House Quay were seen entering the appropriately named James Connolly Pub on Eden Quay. The Irish socialist and republican leader of the 1916 Easter Rising, James Connolly, was a Scottish economic immigrant.
Ironically, Adam Idah, who was born in Ireland, scored twice to help Celtic win the league. The father of Adam Idah is an immigrant from Nigeria.
With Israeli flags prominently displayed, the protest had earlier chanted “Get Them Out” in reference to forced mass deportations and anti-Palestinian solidarity slogans.
In keeping with Celtic FC’s message of sympathy with the Palestinian people and anyone in need of shelter globally, those in attendance at the social event asked the demonstrators to leave.
The protesters started attacking Celtic FC fans physically and abusing non-Irish employees and management members based on their race.
While management and staff barricaded the door and kept the venue closed until it was safe to reopen, Celtic supporters courageously drove out the far right contingent, which was significantly larger.
This act of hatred and racism is something we hereby denounce.
Celtic FC is a well-known football team that was founded in 1887 with the goal of helping poor immigrants and refugees. With an estimated 9 million supporters globally as of 2003, spread throughout more than 160 Celtic Supporters Clubs founded in more than 20 countries, Celtic FC is likewise a community of global solidarity.
Regardless of the socioeconomic or political environment, racism, fascism, anti-immigrant support, or even sentiment have no place in the spirit of being a loyal Celtic FC fan. We condemn the attack on our club’s supporters in Dublin as much as we condemn the message that the rally in Dublin brought about, and we urge people who are struggling financially to avoid being tricked by shrewd political agitators using a far-right narrative.
If all they have to give is blaming the weakest people in the world—refugee seekers—they don’t have the answers to your problems or the motivation to devise a solution.
