A house fire that killed a woman on Boxing Day is not being investigated as suspicious.

Susan Woods, in her 70s, was discovered dead by crews on Carterford Drive in Old Catton, near Norwich, around 04:00 GMT.

A cordon was placed around the scene while police and fire officials investigated, but it was later lifted.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Norfolk Police denied any criminal involvement and stated that a cause for the fire could not be determined.

According to the police, Ms Woods has not yet been formally identified, but her next of kin has been notified.

A post-mortem examination will take place at a later date.

A Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: “In the coming weeks, crews will be conducting fire prevention engagements in the Old Catton area to reassure residents following the incident.”

Firefighters from North Earlham, Wroxham, Aylsham, Hethersett, Acle, and Long Stratton all responded to the fire.

An aerial ladder platform from Great Yarmouth was used, along with the Dereham urban search and rescue team.
