Five signings Kieran McKenna must make at Ipswich Town, including ‘excellent’ star and Coventry City ace.

Ipswich Town are aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League in the 2025/26 Championship, and these five players would be extremely beneficial to Kieran McKenna’s team.
Ipswich Town are prepared for life in the second tier next season after being relegated to the Championship last season, and vultures have been circling Portman Road in the aftermath of top-flight relegation. Kieran McKenna’s future as head coach is questionable with speculation about a move to Brentford. However, Keith Andrews is in line to succeed Thomas Frank at Brentford, allaying Tractor Boys fans’ anxieties about McKenna’s exit. The Tractor Boys have already lost star player Liam Delap after Ipswich pulled off a masterstroke in the £30 million deal, and the club may now use the increased funds to pursue a promotion push. EFL Analysis has identified five players the Tractor Boys could sign in the summer transfer window.

Five players Ipswich Town should sign this summer
Maksym Talovierov
Plymouth Argyle were relegated to League One last season, and Ipswich should use this opportunity to pursue sturdy centre-back Maksym Talovierov. Following his mid-season switch from LASK, the tall defender was one of Plymouth’s shining stars in a disastrous season, and then-Argyle manager Miron Muslic branded him a future Premier League player. Muslic told the BBC after Talovierov scored a precise header in the FA Cup loss to Manchester City: “He played an amazing game defensively and had a lovely header. “It is a Premier League goal and I think he has the potential for this.” Millwall have been urged to replace Japhet Tanganga with Talovierov if the former goes this summer amid Premier League interest in the Argyle’s defensive qualities colossus possesses.
With central defensive loanee Ben Godfrey returning to Atalanta, the Tractor Boys require quality reinforcements in the heart of defence, which the Ukrainian would be.
Callum Doyle
Another central defender worth considering for Ipswich is Callum Doyle, who spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Norwich from Manchester City. Doyle, a versatile defender, notched seven assists in 40 Championship outings for Norwich last season, his fourth successful loan spell away from the Etihad, and is now looking for a permanent move. Doyle, a former Black Cats loanee, has been touted as Regis Le Bris’ next Sunderland signing due to his defensive and possession abilities. However, with Ipswich in need of centre-backs and Doyle more likely to play for Ipswich than Sunderland next season, his move would be a reasonable one, fitting in with McKenna’s possession-oriented approach.

Jack Rudoni
Snatching one of Ipswich’s top-six opponents’ best players would be a risky move, but Coventry City’s Jack Rudoni is exactly the type of player the Tractor Boys require. EFL Analysis claimed this month that Coventry “will sell” Rudoni this summer, with Premier League clubs interested in the attacking midfielder, but the Tractor Boys will need to use some of the Delap funds to make a move for the Englishman. Rudoni scored nine goals and assisted 12 in 45 second-tier appearances last season, as Frank Lampard’s team lost in the play-off semi-finals to Sunderland.
His acquisition would be a marked improvement on the poor return from Conor Chaplin and replace the void in the number ten role left by loanee Julio Enciso as he returns to Brighton.

Charlie Kelman
Moving forward, QPR starlet Charlie Kelman would be an excellent option for Ipswich this summer after scoring 23 goals on loan at Leyton Orient in League One last season. Kelman has been tipped as a player Norwich City should recruit in light of Josh Sargent’s interest in Leeds, and his impressive season in front of goal for the O’s last season demonstrates his potential. Kelman, a USA international, scored 23 goals and provided five assists in 49 third-tier appearances for Orient, who were defeated in the play-off final by Charlton Athletic, and he might be Delap’s successor. Head coach McKenna was vital in Delap’s development as one of English football’s greatest young strikers, and the Ipswich boss could do the same with the lofty potential of Kelman.

Emmanuel Latte Lath
Kelman’s lack of Championship experience may put Ipswich off signing him next season, but former Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath is someone they might rely on for second-tier goals. We reported earlier this window that Latte Lath is exploring a return to England, barely months after Boro paid £22.5 million for him in the winter window. Ipswich attempted a move for the Ivorian forward last summer, but it never materialised, and since their relegation back to the Championship, the club has renewed their interest in Latte Lath.
He scored 27 goals and three assists in 59 second-tier appearances for Boro over two seasons at the Riverside, and he is a proven striker in the Championship who would undoubtedly replace the attacking danger of the departing Delap.
