Five taken to hospital and man arrested after car crash during Surrey police chase

Two vehicles crashed during a police pursuit in Godstone, resulting in the hospitalisation of five persons and the

arrest of one individual. Around 10.15 p.m. on Friday, March 7, the event happened on the A25 Oxted Road.

Officers from the Surrey Police patrol in Godstone noticed a silver Kia Sedona acting strangely just before the

collision. Police pursued the driver after they sped off after being asked to stop.

After that, the Kia struck a passing vehicle. All three of the passengers in the passing automobile were brought to the

hospital for treatment after suffering injuries, two of whom were deemed critically hurt.

In the meantime, both of the Kia Sedona’s passengers were hurt and sent to the hospital for medical attention. On

suspicion of causing serious injury through reckless driving, failure to stop, driving while intoxicated or under the

influence of drugs, driving without a licence or insurance, stealing a motor vehicle, handling stolen property and

fraud by false representation, a 36-year-old man from St Leonards-on-Sea was taken into custody.

The man has been released on bail awaiting additional investigation, according to police. Because the collision

happened during a police pursuit, Surrey Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police

Conduct (IOPC) in the wake of this event.

Surrey Police investigating officers are now calling on witnesses and anyone with knowledge about this event to

come forward. “We are looking to speak to any witnesses or anyone who witnessed the manner in which a silver Kia

was being driven in the area and at the time leading up to the collision,” a Surrey Police spokesperson stated.
