Football transfer rumours: Kudus in and Son out at Spurs? Joe Gomez to Sunderland?

Liverpool are thought to be willing to allow Joe Gomez leave Anfield this summer, and there are plenty of suitors for the England international.

Sunderland, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham, Leeds, and Burnley have formed a disorderly queue for the 28-year-old, who is worth £30 million. Despite not doing business with West Ham since 2011 due to a strained relationship with the club’s owners, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is willing to swallow the bullet in order to get Mohammed Kudus to north London. The Ghanaian’s contract includes an £85 million release clause, but Spurs are reportedly planning to test the waters with a £50 million lowball bid.

Son Heung-min’s future at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be as uncertain as Steph Houghton’s after that Leonardo Bonucci tackle during Football Aid on Sunday night, but if the 32-year-old does leave White Hart Lane after a decade of service, it will not be before his club’s pre-season tour of Southeast Asia later this summer. Spurs are due to play Arsenal in Hong Kong on July 31 and a friendly with Newcastle in Seoul three days later, and given Son’s immense popularity in his home country, the tour’s organisers have already signed him up for a variety of off-field money-making activities. Fenerbahce and many Saudi Pro League clubs are reportedly interested in signing the Spurs captain.

Aston Villa’s bean-counters have dusted up the club-branded pricing gun and tagged Jacob Ramsey for £40 million in order to avoid falling foul of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations. With the 30 June deadline approaching, we can probably expect to see various clubs selling kids no one has ever heard of to each other for exorbitant sums in order to get their ducks in a row before the fiscal year ends, but in Ramsey, Villa have a homegrown player whose sale will be pure profit. Tottenham and West Ham have expressed interest in the midfielder, who will no doubt leave it as late as possible to make their bids in order to try to force the player’s price down.

Arsenal have become frustrated in their efforts to sign Viktor Gyökeres due to Sporting’s intransigence over their asking price for the Swedish striker, and they are still determined to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, but they have not ruled out signing Ollie Watkins from Villa if neither of their two preferred strikers is available. Juventus are said to have thrown their hat into the Gyökeres ring, telling the striker’s representation that they are willing to match his £11 million annual wage demands and are preparing a bid to entice his obstinate Portuguese employers.

Florian Wirtz has been scheduled to run on a treadmill and cough for Liverpool medics later this week, while Milos Kerkez’s £40 million transfer from Bournemouth to the Premier League champions appears to be a matter of when, not if. The acquisition of the Hungarian international could prompt another Liverpool full-back, Andy Robertson, to leave for Madrid, with Atlético showing interest. We’ll find out in due course whether the Scotsman has been taking Spanish lessons with his good friend Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Fulham, Leeds, and Sunderland are all vying for Strasbourg’s Senegalese midfielder Habib Diarra, while the two newly promoted clubs are also interested in Celtic’s American centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers. Sunderland is also interested in Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga, but they will have to compete with Millwall’s fierce rivals Crystal Palace to sign him.
