Forget Vini Souza, the biggest regret for Sheffield United this season will be £2m deal with Wrexham
Four games into the season, and it perhaps could not be going much worse for Sheffield United in the Championship.
The Blades are rooted to the bottom of the table, and they are the only side in the division to have not picked up a single point from the opening month of the campaign.
Team MP W D L GD Pts
21 Derby 4 0 2 2 -4 2
22 Oxford United 4 0 1 3 -3 1
23 Sheffield Wednesday 4 0 1 3 -6 1
24 Sheffield Utd 4 0 0 4 -6 0
Ruben Selles is under pressure, ‘and after scoring only one goal in the league, questions have to be asked about the strike force at Bramall Lane and why they have not been a threat.
These issues have only been compounded by the decision to sell a key player at Sheffield United, and it is not Vini Souza.
Sheffield United will rue selling Kieffer Moore to Wrexham
Kieffer Moore joined Wrexham for £2m earlier in the summer, and after a disappointing end to his time with the Blades, it felt like the right time for the striker to move on.
However, for the South Yorkshire outfit, this move has not exactly gone to plan, with Moore taking this new challenge in his stride.
Once again, the 33-year-old is proving why he has had the success that he has had at this level, scoring three goals in just four games to help Wrexham into 15th as the Championship stops for its first international break of the season.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United have just one striker who has found the back of the net in 2025/26 – Tyrese Campbell.
Kieffer Moore has nearly bettered his tally from last season already
Moore played 27 league games for the Blades last season, scoring just five times and he lacked confidence at times.
His performance in the play-off semi-final against Bristol City was much improved, but it was his mistake against Sunderland that allowed Tommy Watson to win promotion as he picked up the ball from distance and found the back of the net.
Kieffer Moore of Sheffield United looks dejected at full-time following the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final match between Sheffield United and Sunderland.
There were perhaps doubts over Moore’s age and his ability to recover his form, and this left Sheffield United in a position where selling him for an seven-figure fee had to be done.
Nonetheless, they could do with his experience at this moment in time as the club tries to work out how to recover from their shocking start.
