Former Barnsley FC, Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers forward ‘set’ to leave West Brom

Former Barnsley FC, Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers forward ‘set’ to leave West Brom.

Devante Cole is reportedly set to leave West Bromwich Albion, just over a year after leaving Barnsley.

The 30-year-old, son of Premier League legend Andy, returned to Barnsley in 2021 following a loan spell at Oakwell earlier in his career.

He didn’t get off to a fast start, but he was the club’s top scorer in League One from 2022 to 2024. Cole’s contract expired at the end of the 2023/24 season, and his goal totals in the third tier guaranteed him a return to the second.

West Brom signed him, but his time with the Baggies appears to be coming to an end.

Devante Cole ‘set’ for West Brom exit

According to reporter Darren Witcoop, the experienced frontman will leave The Hawthorns this summer. On social media platform X, he stated: “Luton and two MLS clubs have made offers for QPR striker Charlie Kelman.

“West Brom have switched their attentions elsewhere having targeted the American this summer but Devante Cole is set to leave The Hawthorns.” Devante Cole’s other spells in Yorkshire

Cole is well-known in Yorkshire, having previously worked for Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers. He joined the Bantams from Manchester City in 2015 and scored six goals in 24 appearances before moving to Fleetwood Town.

Doncaster brought Cole back to Yorkshire in 2020, but his stay was brief, as he left after only nine appearances.

Cole didn’t score a single goal in 16 appearances for West Brom last season. While he may have had a difficult season, it is difficult to imagine the striker not having fans in League One and possibly even the Championship.

Devante Cole’s Barnsley departure When Cole left Oakwell last year, he stated: “My time at Barnsley has come to an end; I’ve had some of the best highs and lows here in the last few years.

“The group we’ve had has been incredible to play with, and off the pitch, they’re some of the best guys you’ll meet. A special thanks to the staff for always pushing me. “We came so close twice but couldn’t quite get it over the line to finish on the highs we all desired.

I’ve learnt that you can’t please everyone out there, but that’s life; however, the fans hearing you sing my name, I’ll always appreciate and remember that feeling.

“It will always be a special place for me because it is where I achieved my first professional goal. “Thank you for everything, DC44.”
