Former Barnsley, Huddersfield Town, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday players among list of free agents at summer camp

Among the free agents at the Professional Footballers Association’s preseason camp in Leicestershire, which has

finished its fourth week, are a number of players with ties to Yorkshire clubs.

Last year, more than 100 players signed new contracts with clubs thanks to the successful unsigned players’ camp.

Former Sheffield Wednesday winger Kadeem Harris and former Barnsley attacker Kane Hemmings signed contracts

with League Two teams this week, joining Barrow and Salford City, respectively.

Among the players still training and trying to earn contracts at clubs include ex-Barnsley striker Sam Cosgrove, 28,

realised by the Reds at the end of last season, having spent the second half of last term on loan at Stockport County.

Adam Reach, 32, a former Owls and Middlesbrough winger, Olamide Shodipo, another former Wednesday player,

and Hakeeb Adelakun, 29, a former Hull City, Rotherham United, and Doncaster Rovers winger who left Salford City

at the end of 2024–25, have also enrolled in the PFA course. Goalie Jamal Blackman, 31, who has been on the books

of Leeds, Sheffield United, Boro, the Millers, and Huddersfield, former Doncaster full-back Danny Andrew, former

Millers wingman Anthony Forde, and Mustapha Carayol, whose previous clubs include Leeds United, Huddersfield

Town, and Boro, have also been at the camp.

The 10-week program, which is entirely sponsored by the player trade union, provides unsigned pros with a rigorous

and organised summer training environment that is similar to club preseason preparations.

All unattached, out-of-contract PFA members who were signed on a professional contract during the 2024–25

season are eligible to attend the 10-week PFA camp, which takes place from June 30 to September 4.

The PFA’s staff of professional, UEFA-qualified coaches oversees a daily regimen of on-field training, fitness, and

recuperation. Players also receive one-on-one support for their personal growth and well-being.
