Former Colchester United midfielder Neil Danns is suspended

PRIOR Neil Danns, a midfielder for Colchester United, has been fined £1,000 and suspended for six months for violating FA betting

regulations.

It was claimed that the recently hired Southport manager, who was promoted with the U’s in 2006, broke FA regulations 65 times by

wagering on football games between February 17, 2007, and August 13, 2022. He will be suspended till the end of the 2025–26 season.

Until the conclusion of the 2025–2026 season, the six-month ban is in effect.

Danns acknowledged the accusations against him, and the wagers were made while he was at other clubs.

The 42-year-old was recently appointed as Southport boss, joining the National League North club in May this year having spent two

years as assistant manager at Tranmere.

Danns made 85 league and cup appearances for Colchester after joining them from Blackburn Rovers in December 2004, initially on

loan.

He left the U’s to join Birmingham City, in the summer of 2006.
