Former Sheffield Wednesday man set for shock debut jump into management

A former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper is set to take the reins in his debut management job, according to reports.

After joining the Owls from Derby County, Lee Grant played 145 games during that time. Owls supporters hold him in high regard; at one point, then-manager Brian Laws called him the best keeper in the Championship. In February 2009, the team achieved its first league double over its city rivals in ninety-five years thanks to his saves in a 2-1 Steel City derby victory.

After finishing his career as a background player at Manchester United, the former England youth international began his coaching career, which led Kieran McKenna to bring him to Ipswich Town. A well-known coach there, he celebrated the uncommon achievement of consecutive promotions from League One to the Premier League and made the unconventional decision to switch from a playing career as a goalkeeper to one as a forwards coach.

With numerous rumors indicating he is expected to take over as manager of Huddersfield Town, it appears Grant is now getting ready to make the move into management. In March, the League One team fired Michael Duff and postponed hiring a new manager until the summer. Jon Worthington took over as interim manager.
