Former Sheffield Wednesday star ruled out of big reunion

Josh Windass’s Sheffield Wednesday reunion has been postponed after his new management revealed he will miss the Owls’ visit this weekend.

The attacker resigned by mutual consent last Wednesday, after receiving his wages late for several months during a challenging summer. Wrexham, his Championship counterparts, signed him after a number of other clubs in the division expressed interest.

He scored on his debut for the ambitious Welsh club in a late defeat at Southampton and started well in the weekend’s loss to West Brom before being sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Boss Phil Parkinson has subsequently announced that the 31-year-old, who has 53 goals and 23 assists in 182 Owls outings, will miss the Racecourse Ground fixture and will return after the international break.

“Josh is going to be out for four to six weeks with his hamstring,” Parkinson explained to reporters. “Obviously, it is a loss because he has been fantastic for us. Even in the opening half hour against West Brom, he was excellent, but he was clearly struggling at Southampton.

“It’s extremely irritating for both him and us, but it’s a part of sport, and we have to deal with it. With the international break approaching, he’ll be close by.”
