Four clubs want Burnley midfielder as future uncertainty persists

According to rumours in Turkey, Trabzonspor, Besiktas, Everton, and the Wolves are all interested in Burnley striker Josh Brownhill.

Burnley had a wonderful 2024/25 season, finishing second in the Championship table with 100 points from 46 games. The Clarets conceded only 16 goals during their promotion-winning season and are currently undefeated after 33 games.

With 18 goals and six assists in 42 games this season, midfielder and captain Josh Brownhill was a key contributor to their success.

Although many possible suitors are keeping an eye on the situation at Turf Moor, Scott Parker’s team announced their retained and released list earlier this week and said that talks are still going on with their star player over a new contract.

Several Turkish media state that Gunebakis Trabzonspor is still interested in the 29-year-old after their bid for the midfield player was turned down last summer. As they try to understand the player’s needs, Brownhill is also rumoured to have received approval from Besiktas manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Wolves and Everton have already expressed interest in the midfield player and will act swiftly if the Burnley captain declines a new deal with the Clarets. The two Turkish teams join them.

The best season yet for Brownhill

This season, Brownhill has produced incredible offensive output, which was essential to his team’s promotion.

His second-best season, in which he scored seven goals and provided eight assists under Vincent Kompany during Burnley’s most recent promotion to the Premier League, is eclipsed by his current total of 18 goals and six assists.

Though there are concerns about whether he will even be at the club when the new season begins, the Clarets’ top player will be aiming to carry on his current run of success into the upcoming campaign. Burnley needs to retain their captain.

The 29-year-old has been with Burnley since 2020 and has been a part of two promotions already at Turf Moor. He is a vital member of the present team due to his expertise and leadership abilities, thus losing him before the upcoming season would be catastrophic.

Scott Parker’s team already has to deal with the possibility of losing CJ Egan-Riley for free at the end of the season, so they will want to keep their captain from suffering the same fate.

The Clarets’ primary goal this summer is to improve their quality, therefore losing important players would most likely spell doom for the forthcoming campaign.
