Francis Benali doesn’t hold back criticism on £40m Saints duo amidst exit rumour.

In the wake of Mateus Fernandes‘ potential move, Francis Benali highlights Southampton’s previous poor transfer recruits, including misfired signings Paul Onuachu and Sulemana.
Southampton were taken aback yesterday when they learnt about the latest Paul Onuachu offer. After already lowering their valuation, they will not accept a €4 million fee for their Premier League top scorer.
However, the Saints, particularly Paul Onuachu, are also responsible for this. Trabzonspor would not have offered such a low fee if the forward had been even slightly consistent during his time at Southampton.
Even if Onuachu’s case has irritated supporters, his attacking counterpart, Sulemana, has been a source of frustration for them since his arrival.
After all, regardless of the circumstances, Sulemana’s time in Southampton has been nothing short of disastrous given his €22 million price tag.
Fortunately, while Southampton’s on-the-front player sale rumours have recently made fans happy, club legend Francis Benali has finally addressed the issue that needed to be raised.
Benali describes Southampton’s transfer window reality to the fans.
Benali revealed that Southampton has signed Kamaldeen Sulemana or Paul Onuachu to replace Mateus Fernandes, who is set to leave for a large fee. Not every transfer will work, but we seem to have had more failures than successes in recent years.”
What is more concerning? Leaving aside the cases of Ross Stewart and other failed attack recruits, Onuachu and Sulemana’s case has cost £40 million.
Southampton’s poor transfer strategy has resulted in a string of failures in their forward line.
After all, having followed Romeo Lavia and Mateus Fernandes’ cases over the years, we have yet to see a success story for their forwards. With a focus on defensive talent recruits like Joshua Quarshie, this problem is unlikely to get better anytime soon.
Let’s see if Southampton can turn the tide in the summer transfer window after a string of failed transfers in the past.
