Frank Lampard makes transfer admission after being asked about Sheffield United’s interest in Bobby Thomas

Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Frank Lampard is quizzed about interest in Bobby Thomas and the need for new centre-halves

Frank Lampard has kept tight-lipped on Sheffield United’s interest in Coventry City’s Bobby Thomas but believes the club have “time” left in the transfer window to get the players they need. Asked by CoventryLive about reports by Sky Sports, corroborated by the Sheffield Star, about the Blades being “in talks” over a potential £8m move for the defender, the Sky Blues head coach stuck to Doug King’s party line on transfers, saying: “I’ve got no comment on that.”

Asked if he could either confirm or deny the reports, he added apologetically: “No.”

However, asked if it is fair to say that having already lost one centre-half in Luis Binks and not yet replaced him, that the club are not going to let another one go without replacements coming in first, Lampard said: “We need centre halves and we need centre halves to come in, for sure. And at the moment we have Joel (Latibeaudiere) whose not fit and Bidders (Jake Bidwell) there, who can and has done the job.

“Of course we know we’ve got Bobby (Thomas) and Kitch (Liam Kitching). We know what we need; I certainly know what we need and that’s fine.” He added: “It’s the early part of the season and we’ve got time left in the window, so that’s all to say.”

There are just over two weeks of the summer window left before it closes on Monday, September 1 at 7pm.
