Frank Lampard must make five summer signings for Coventry City, including Chelsea favour and a £5 million Aston Villa ace.
Coventry City had a unique season in 2024/25, rising from the relegation zone under Mark Robins to reach the play-offs with Frank Lampard.
Many were skeptical of Frank Lampard’s arrival at initially, but he quickly proved them wrong and helped Coventry put together a record-breaking run of form in the second half of the season.
Ultimately, Coventry’s play-off voyage ended in misery, as eventual victors Sunderland won their semi-final at the death.
Now, ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season, the Sky Blues must make strategic signings in the summer transfer window to improve next season.
To achieve so, we believe Lampard should target these five guys.

Five players Frank Lampard must target for Coventry City this summer
Freddie Woodman.
Last season, Coventry City had two goalkeepers, Oliver Dovin and Brad Collins, who divided duties. That is not ideal, and the Sky Blues would really benefit from bringing in a consistent number one this summer.
Freddie Woodman, one of the Championship’s many free agents, was released by Preston North End after failing to agree on a new deal.
He was one of the best goalkeepers outside the top six last season and would make an excellent addition to any team this summer.
Alfie Gilchrist
The Chelsea prospect had a good loan spell with Sheffield United last season, fitting in throughout the backline for the Blades.
Injuries hampered his progress, but he still shown that he is a class act and capable of competing in the Championship.
He is now expected to be eligible for a permanent move this summer, having become surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
A number of second-tier clubs will be following Lampard, who may use his Chelsea connections to get ahead and sign another right-back to compete with Milan van Ewijk.
Kain Kesler-Hayden
On the defensive side, Coventry are reported to be tracking Kaine Kesler-Hayden. The Aston Villa ace has just returned from a fantastic season with Preston North End, but now that his loan period has ended, his long-term future is uncertain.
Villa are said to demand £5 million for the left-back. Middlesbrough and Southampton are also interested in Kesler-Hayden, but Coventry would be happy to get him and bring balance to both sides of the backline.

Ethan Galbraith
Coventry doesn’t lack skill in the middle of the park, with Jack Rudoni, Ben Sheaf, and Josh Eccles all contributing in their own unique ways.
But you can always have more, especially with Victor Torp’s injury last season and Jamie Allen entering his twilight years.
Ethan Galbraith, the star of Leyton Orient, would be a perfect summer addition for most Championship clubs in this position. Swansea have already expressed interest in him, with a £1 million bid rejected in January, but teams will undoubtedly come calling again now that Orient have failed to gain promotion.
Tyrique George
Lampard may return the favour to Chelsea this summer by signing Tyrique George, another promising winger. The Stamford Bridge prospect has played a few minutes for the Blues and appears to be promising, but he needs a complete season of playing to mature.
Coventry already has Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Ephron Mason-Clark on their roster, but George would add something new and make the Sky Blues a real threat out wide next season.
