Fulham confident Silva will commit to Cottage future.

Fulham are confident that Marco Silva will commit to a long-term future at Craven Cottage by signing a new contract this summer, despite the Portuguese coach being considered for Serie A positions.
Silva told Talksport after Manchester City’s final-day defeat last Sunday that he would definitely stay in SW6 despite rejecting offers from Tottenham Hotspur and Al Hilal. According to reports from Italy this weekend, Silva is on the shortlist to take over permanently at Juventus and as a potential successor to Simeone Inzaghi at Inter Milan following the Nerazurri’s humiliating Champions League final defeat by Paris Saint-Germain, but the Fulham hierarchy believes their manager will sign a new contract soon.
Chairman Shahid Khan is willing to fund summer signings as Silva seeks to dramatically reshape an ageing and smaller squad ahead of the new season, with investment seen as critical to keeping the former Hull City, Watford, and Everton manager out of the hands of other suitors. While Silva is admired by Damien Comolli, who is expected to be named Juve’s new sporting director in the coming days, the Bianconeri are said to be focussing their search on managers with Serie A experience.

Silva is said to value his working relationship with Fulham chief executive Alistair Mackintosh as well as Khan, and he has gradually gained more control over the club’s recruitment, which was previously handled by Tony Khan, the club’s director of football, who took an analytics-driven approach. The Whites have increased their efforts to keep Kenny Tete, who is out of contract at the end of the month, with the club, as Silva has requested.

Where’s all this information coming from then?

Let’s hope he stays and TK gives him the financial support his record deserves. Also, he is the man who has to work with the squad, so he should have the final say on who we sign. I really hope we can keep Kenny.
He had the say on signings last summer and we ended up with Smith-Rowe and Andersen.

We frequently say that the grass isn’t greener for players who leave Craven Cottage for ‘bigger clubs’, but the same is true for managers. Roy Hodgson’s move to Liverpool was a complete disaster, and Mark Hughes resigned due to the club’s lack of ambition, and will begin the new season in charge of Carlisle United in the Conference.
Silva would be foolish to leave a place where he is highly regarded for Juventus, whose instability has already chewed up and spat out Thiago Motta, and whose summer rebuild is arguably larger than the one required at Craven Cottage. I hope he stays because he can propel Fulham forward with the investment promised by Shad Khan.

This afternoon’s Sunday Times contains an interesting article stating that transfers should only be analysed after two years, and that the number of games played by the signing should be considered. If we did not use this analysis, Brede Hangeland, Bobby Zamora, Zoltan Gera, and Chris Baird, for example, would be considered failures, which is ridiculous.
I’m confident Smith Rowe will improve, and Silva deserves credit for successfully reintegrating Ryan Sessegnon into the squad. I’m excited for the new season with Silva at the helm, especially if the board plans to spend heavily.
