‘Go and buy’ – Celtic backed to make ‘£10 million’ signing amid Tony Bloom’s investment in Hearts

‘Go and buy’ – Celtic backed to make ‘£10 million’ signing amid Tony Bloom’s investment in Hearts.

Recently, Hearts has made some strange sounds. Tony Bloom, Hearts’ new investor, is shooting for the stars in order to prevent Celtic and Rangers from remaining the top two teams in Scotland.

Celtic have been the dominant side for the past 20 years, so forget about the Jambos trying to do anything noteworthy; even Rangers are struggling.

But that doesn’t mean Bloom shouldn’t try or can’t be successful, given that he has masterminded Brighton’s ascension in English football and into Europe. In any case, Bloom’s investment and foray into Scottish football has sparked widespread interest.

Given that Celtic clean house season after season on the domestic scene, along with Champions League money and their ability to recruit properly. Then it puts them in a strong financial position, which Cillian Sheridan wanted to stress on BBC Radio Scotland while discussing Hearts’ new investor.

Sheridan believes Celtic will ‘go and purchase’ a player for ‘£10 million’ this summer, highlighting the financial gap between the two teams, even with Bloom joining. “Celtic and Rangers will be doing something similar themselves,” she added. “I think there’s a little too much excitement about how much of a difference it will make.

“£9m or £10m. I don’t think that’s going to challenge Celtic or Rangers. Celtic could go and buy, and I would imagine they probably will, one player in a transfer in the region of that.

“It might elevate Hearts above the rest of the pack, but I don’t think it’s enough to challenge the [top] two, really.”

Scottish Premiership title winners outside of Celtic and Rangers

Celtic have won 14 of the last 15 Premiership titles, bringing them level with Rangers at 55 each heading into the current season. But the last time someone other than the Glasgow duo won the major title was in 1985, when Sir Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen triumphed over everyone else.

And, in the history of Scottish football, particularly in the modern period, few teams outside of Celtic and Rangers have had much to brag about.
