Gordon Dalziel says it’s ‘crazy’ what he is hearing about Brendan Rodgers before Celtic’s clash at Rangers
After weeks and weeks of waiting, Celtic eventually won the Premiership title when they thrashed Dundee United in their most recent game.
It also celebrates Celtic’s 55th Premiership win and shows why the green and white team is Scotland’s most successful.
Titles and trebles have arrived like your morning mail during this nearly two-decade period of total domination, which Brendan Rodgers has played a key role in throughout his two periods as manager.
If Celtic wins the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen later this month, Rodgers’ cupboard will contain another triple, but he comes into the Rangers game with an odd shadow over his head.
Being the center of attention all the time is what it’s like to manage a Celtic-sized team and operate in Glasgow’s pressure cooker.
The question of whether the supporters will be “raging” if the champions lose again was debated on Open Goal after Celtic and Rodgers lost the previous two Glasgow derbies.
Si Ferry inquired: “From Celtic’s side of things, if Rodgers loses this again, even though they end up winning the Treble, they will still be raging, won’t they?!”
Derek Ferguson, a former Rangers player, claimed to have heard Pat Bonner state that “Celtic need to beat Rangers” on a regular basis.
However, Gordon Dalziel clarified that considering everything Rodgers has done this season, it’s “crazy” that he is under such “pressure.”
James McFadden replied, “Of course, they won’t be happy.” Before Derek Ferguson said, “I believe so. Indeed. They will, of course. After all, Big Packie (Bonner) keeps bringing it up. “Oh, we must defeat the Rangers.”
“So, does that put a little pressure on Rodgers?” Gordon Dalziel then queries. It’s ridiculous when you think about it, isn’t it?
The last thing I want is to lose it. He is thinking, “By the way, we have shipped a couple goals against Rangers.
” This will be Rodgers’ 23rd game against the Gers, the team he has managed the most against in his career.
At the moment, Chelsea and Rangers are tied in that category (22 games), with a number of Scottish teams among them, including Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Manchester City.
However, this is his top ten best points per match record among the Scottish teams Rodgers has managed ten or more games against.
Against club | Games played against | Points Per Match |
Ross County | 12 | 2.83 |
St Mirren | 11 | 2.82 |
Dundee | 16 | 2.75 |
Aberdeen | 21 | 2.67 |
Motherwell | 18 | 2.56 |
St Johnstone | 19 | 2.53 |
Rangers | 22 | 2.32 |
Hearts | 20 | 2.30 |
Martindale told PLZ Soccer, “I voted for Brendan if he wins the treble, because I think that, plus his European exploits this year.
“I don’t agree with anyone who argues Celtic should simply win the treble. Winning the three tournaments is, in my opinion, really significant.
“I believe they should be winning it, but that’s just a cheap shot.” He shouldn’t be winning, in my opinion. It’s a tremendous accomplishment, in my opinion. Therefore, if Brendan wins the treble, that is why I voted for him.
