Greg Docherty reveals Charlton driving factor as former Rangers star refuses to let one dream die.

The former Rangers and Hull City midfielder is returning to the English Championship following his success in the Wembley play-offs.
Greg Docherty experienced promotion excitement at Wembley Stadium, and he has not given up aspirations of international recognition at Hampden. The former Rangers and Hull midfielder is on his way back to the Championship after leading Charlton to play-off success last week. And now, as he prepares to move up to England’s second division, he thinks that will provide a springboard for a Scotland call-up. The 28-year-old was capped at various youth levels, including Scot Gemmill’s Under-21s. But, while he has yet to join Steve Clarke’s entire national team, he believes there is still time. The Addicks ace stated, “Yeah, it has to be my ambition.
“It’s about trying to be the greatest version of yourself, and perhaps performing well for Charlton will assist with that. “If it doesn’t happen for me, I will continue to support Scotland. “But, of course, that goal remains a motivator; it would be crazy not to. “I understand that the midfield has always been the strongest section of the group, particularly in recent years. “There are a lot of young midfielders emerging, which is nice to see, and the country is again qualifying for tournaments again.
“But I am still fit. That endurance element has always been my strong suit, so ageing does not seem to be a factor for me right now. “I really believe that my greatest years are still ahead of me. “I’ll be playing in a very challenging league again next season. I want to build on my time with Hull in the Championship and become a more powerful midfielder there.
Docherty will have stiff competition in an engine room crowded with Premier League talents and even a handful of new Serie A champions. But he’s willing to give it his best effort. He said: “I knew last year that moving down to League One would not be an option, so I put those thoughts aside. “I would love to play for Scotland.” I know I have some good guys in front of me, like Scott McTominays, Billy Gilmours, and John McGinns. But all I can do is perform my best and hope to grab someone’s attention.”
