Greg Taylor’s six-year stay at Celtic comes to an end

Greg Taylor, who has been with Celtic for six years, is scheduled to join PAOK soon.

According to The Herald, Taylor has accepted personal terms and signed a two-year contract with a third year option to join the Greek side.

Taylor, who has been out of contract since the end of last season, was considering his options when Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Scotland left-back Kieran Tierney will return to Celtic from Arsenal this summer.

PAOK manager Razvan Lucescu had identified Taylor as a key target for the next summer transfer window, and it appears that the 27-year-old has already been signed on a free transfer.

Taylor, who has never played abroad, is currently on a family vacation in Dubai and has now formally accepted PAOK’s offer, following significant events over the weekend. Ruvie, Taylor and his partner Laura’s first child, was born in February. After settling down, it looks that the defender desires a change of lifestyle.

Since joining Celtic from Kilmarnock in 2019, the left-back has played over 200 games and won five Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups, and three League Cup winners’ medals.

PAOK finished third in the Greek Super League last season, earning a spot in the Europa League’s third qualifying round. Best wishes to Greg in his new enterprise in Greece; he has frequently been an underappreciated Celtic player.

He was a mainstay for Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou, and Brendan Rodgers’ teams, which tells you everything you need to know about Taylor’s consistency and quality.

Celtic will now need to appropriately replace the departing defender, and given his anticipated departure, the Hoops hierarchy will have identified targets who will provide crucial backup to the incoming Tierney.
