Has Kevin Nagle fulfilled the promises he made when he first joined Huddersfield Town?

In June 2023, Kevin Nagle assumed complete control of Huddersfield Town; nevertheless, his two years in West

Yorkshire haven’t exactly gone as planned.

The 70-year-old ended Dean Hoyle’s lengthy ownership tenure, which saw the Terriers go to the Premier League and

included the few years of Phil Hodgkinson.

Huddersfield hasn’t had the same level of success since they were demoted from the top league in 2019. Town was

demoted again at the end of Nagle’s first season as owner.

Darren Moore and Neil Warnock were fired by the Yorkshire team during that season, and former Schalke manager

Andre Breitenreiter was given the responsibility of maintaining them in the second division.

However, that was not to be, and the subsequent season again had little to brag about.

The Terriers were led by Michael Duff last season and appeared to be in the running for the playoffs in January, but

they lost ground to the top six due to a lack of investment during the winter.

After Duff was fired, Jon Worthington managed a six-game losing streak to end the season, and Town finished 10th

in the English football third division.

The Terriers’ supporters are understandably frustrated after two seasons of inadequacies and have started to wonder

about their owner’s motivations.

Nagle made it clear right on when he took over the team that he didn’t want to let the John Smith’s Stadium

supporters down.

“I am extremely humbled and excited to be the new steward of Huddersfield Town,” remarked Nagle to the club’s

website.

“I want to express my gratitude to the EFL, FCA, Dave Baldwin, and Dean Hoyle for their assistance and

meticulousness over the last three months.

“I want to express my gratitude to the amazing Town supporters for their patience and support. I don’t want to

disappoint them since I know how much they care about this club.

“Let’s get to work now.”

However, Nagle contributed to the depressing atmosphere at John Smith’s Stadium in 2023–24 when the team was

relegated in his first season as Town owner. Ultimately, though, it is the players on the pitch that bear the

responsibility for completing tasks.
