“He is going” – Exclusive: Sky Sports pundit issues new claim on Danny Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday future

Danny Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday has been up in the air for a few weeks now.

The 36-year-old has stated that his “picture is very clear” of what he wants to achieve next, but he has ominously declined to reveal what that picture comprises.

With a challenging board-level position at Hillsborough Stadium and plenty of top-level interest, Rohl’s next season as Owls manager is far from inevitable.

We asked Sky Sports analyst David Prutton how he sees the affair playing out.

Prutton predicts Rohl exit

Danny Rohl for Sheffield Wednesday

Prutton told Football League World: “I think the Danny Rohl, Sheffield Wednesday departure debate is now in bear-in-the-woods territory.”

“I would say yes, he is leaving, and he will have admirers at the Championship and Premier League levels, based on what I understand.

“And understandably so. As previously stated, he has had difficult circumstances in guiding Sheffield Wednesday both on and off the pitch, but he has done so excellently. They toyed briefly with the top six. I ended up not bothering it.

“I’m intrigued to know what the next incarnation of Sheffield Wednesday is, but I’ve got a feeling it’ll possibly be without Danny Rohl, and he’ll be sorely missed.”

Danny Rohl’s next destination

The 36-year-old’s standing is high after coming in and turning Wednesday’s fortunes around, from fearing relegation last season to pushing them closer to the play-offs this season.

According to Sky Germany, Crystal Palace, Fulham, and newly relegated Leicester City and Southampton are all interested in him.

Rohl’s record with Sheffield Wednesday, as per Transfermarkt
Games 89
Wins 34
Draws 19
Losses 36
PPG 1.36

Given that all of those clubs have varying degrees of uncertainty in the dugout, and all would be perceived as a promotion, with the latter two virtually surely poised to compete near the top of the table again, the temptation for Rohl will be strong.

He has yet to announce his future steps, but the mood music is only going in one direction.
