Hearts summer signing shares reasons behind Jambos transfer as major selling point pulls him towards Gorgie

As a key selling point entices him to Gorgie, the Hearts summer signing explains the reasons behind Jambo’s transfer.

Oisin McEntee says Hearts are getting a combative midfielder willing to give his all after signing a pre contract to join the club.

After playing for Walsall, who just lost out on promotion to League One in the EFL through the play-offs, the Irishman will join the Jambos for the start of the preseason. McEntee, a graduate of Newcastle United’s youth, made 79 appearances for The Saddlers in three seasons while on loan at Greenock Morton in Scotland.

The midfield player is now making a comeback to play Scottish football for the second time. He tells Hearts TV that he was drawn to Gorgie because of the club’s enormous heritage, which is well-known throughout the UK and Ireland.

He said: “Listen, it’s amazing. It’s incredibly thrilling to be here and starting a new chapter with a brilliant, massive football team. Everyone in Scotland, England, and Ireland is aware of its lengthy history. Thus, it undoubtedly drew me in. They stated that they had done their homework on me and have a strategy for me, wanting to use me as a midfielder.

Additionally, I’m thrilled to be a part of the strategy. I’m definitely looking forward to it because everything has been fantastic so far. I believe you can count on a diligent worker who will put himself out there, win battles, and then tidy up on the ball.

McEntee has also highlighted his loan at Morton and decision to quit Walsall. He added: “ “It was my first taste of first-team football and walking into a changing room full of men, it definitely taught me a lot. I think I adapted well, and I had a great time up at Greenock. My stay at Walsall was fantastic. As a permanent transfer, that was my first first-team club. The club was run well and has a great bunch of lads and other intelligent adults. Although leaving will be difficult, I’m looking forward to the next phase of my career.

“We can confirm that Oisin McEntee will join Scottish Premiership side Hearts upon the expiration of his contract,” Walsall said in a statement. After coming from Newcastle United in the summer of 2022, the 24-year-old made 79 appearances for the Saddlers. During his time at the Poundland Bescot Stadium, he scored six goals, including a brace against Notts County at Meadow Lane in December 2023. We appreciate Oisin’s efforts and professionalism during his tenure at the club and wish him and his family luck in their upcoming endeavor.
