‘Here we go!’ – Fabrizio Romano confirms £19.5m Sunderland transfer deal for exciting attacker

Chemsdine Talbi is expected to join Sunderland for £19.5 million as the medical process nears…

Sunderland are close to completing another important acquisition, with Belgian winger Chemsdine Talbi undergoing a medical ahead of a permanent move from Club Brugge.

According to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old is currently undergoing medical tests with the Black Cats, who have agreed to a deal with Brugge worth €23 million (roughly £19.5 million considering add-ons). “Chemsdine Talbi to Sunderland, here we go!” Romano took to social media on Saturday.

“Medical treatment is currently underway for the Moroccan winger at #SAFC. Club Brugge has agreed to a €23 million package, which includes add-ons. Documents are being exchanged.

Talbi is regarded as one of Belgian football’s top promising talents, having made 43 appearances in all competitions for Brugge previous season, scoring six goals. He also competed in the Champions League and the Belgian Super Cup, establishing himself as a top-tier winger.

Talbi, who was born in Belgium but is eligible to represent Morocco internationally, started his career with Club NXT before moving up to the Brugge senior team, where he rapidly established himself. He scored his first league goal in a 3-0 win over Kortrijk last September and made his Champions League debut a few days later against Borussia Dortmund.

Sunderland has been in negotiations with Club Brugge over the past week, with initial reports indicating a £17 million bid. However, Romano’s most recent report suggests that the ultimate amount will be closer to £19.5 million, including bonuses, making Talbi one of the most expensive signings in club history.

The transfer builds on Sunderland’s ambitious recruitment push following promotion to the Premier League, with Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman and Head Coach Régis Le Bris aiming for a mix of youth and top-flight experience.

Talbi would be the club’s fifth senior signing of the window, behind Enzo Le Fée, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, and Reinildo. He is anticipated to challenge for a starting berth on the wing in Le Bris’ system, adding more pace, flare, and Champions League experience to the team.

Sunderland are likely to complete the acquisition of experienced left-back Reinildo Mandava, with the 31-year-old scheduled to sign a two-year contract with the club on Monday in Madrid.

The Mozambique international has been a free agent since leaving Atlético Madrid, and transfer source Rudy Galetti reports that the final paperwork will be completed at the beginning of the week. In an update on X (previously Twitter), Galetti wrote: “Reinildo will officially sign his two-year contract with Sunderland on Monday in Madrid.” The transaction was entirely agreed upon, as announced days ago: the athlete will begin his next chapter in the United Kingdom.”

Reinildo has spent the last two seasons in Spain after leaving Lille, where he helped the French club win the Ligue 1 title in 2020-21. Since joining Atlético in early 2022, he has played 74 games in all competitions, including La Liga, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Fabrizio Romano, a transfer analyst, confirmed Sunderland’s move earlier this week, saying on his own social media accounts: “Reinildo to Sunderland, here we go! The left back expected to arrive from Atlético Madrid has signed a two-year contract.
