He’s been compared to Marek Hamsik and Declan Rice, now Ipswich Town must snap up £3.5m ‘jewel’
Although Ipswich Town hasn’t made many moves this summer, they still need to sign one player, and they can do so for a very little
cost.
Liam Delap, who joined Chelsea in June, has so far been waved off by the Tractor Boys. Ipswich got a terrific bargain, but their team
now has a significant hole.
Meanwhile, the main Ipswich signing so far this summer has been the capture of midfield enforcer Azor Matusiwa from Rennes.
But, there is another area of Kieran McKenna’s squad that needs improving, and this Slovakian creative master could be the key to a
successful season.
Slovakian football expert likens Tomas Rigo to Marek Hamsik
Banik Ostrava midfielder Tomas Rigo is commended for a variety of qualities in a comprehensive article from Slovakian publication
Sport Net, which also makes some striking analogies.
Reporter Ivan Mriška compares Rigo to German icon Bastian Schweinsteiger and former Arsenal and Chelsea player Cesc Fabregas.
“The comparison to Marek Hamšík is perhaps even more fitting,” adds Michal Kvasnica, an expert on Ostrava.
After making his significant breakthrough in the Czech football division the previous season, Rigo earns these parallels, which are
quite high praise for the 23-year-old.
Tomas Rigo is without a doubt Banik’s brightest gem, and Kvasnica says he has a bright future ahead of him. He will be the Slovak
national team’s main motivator going forward. He will undoubtedly play in one of the top five European competitions in the future, in
my opinion.
This high praise comes after Rigo scored a world-class goal for Banik earlier this year, with a sublime free-kick to secure a 1-0 win for
his team.
According to a story on eurofotbal.cz, “Tomas Rigo showed everyone that beautiful goals are also scored in the Czech Republic, like the
one scored by Declan Rice from Arsenal in the Champions League,” Rigo’s postage stamp finish had everyone salivating.
“I looked at the goals in the morning and thought it would be nice to score them the same way,” Rigo told the denník.cz portal,
demonstrating that it was all deliberate.
The boys were already telling me that when we were having a party. I’m happy with how things worked out.
£3.5m investment would be a great deal for Ipswich Town
Ipswich and other Serie A teams were connected to Rigo back in January. Although there was no move at the time, the player’s agent,
Martin Stepanovsky, claimed there were offers and that an exit would soon be possible.
“We’ll come together and talk about it if the club gets a big offer. Banik turned down a €2 million (£1.73 million) deal for Tomas.
According to Stepanovsky, his current worth is approximately €4 million (£3.5 million).
“There is little doubt that Tomas would fit in with a team from the English or Italian leagues. Since the first rumours of this kind
surfaced in the summer, clubs have been keeping an eye on him,” he continued.
Even though Ipswich is now in the Championship, they are still among the best clubs in the league and would provide the ideal setting
for a young player hoping to establish himself in England. Maybe a stepping stone, unless Ipswich can advance and provide Rigo
Premier League football.
Rigo has previously mentioned how much he likes to play football that is fast, expansive, and aggressive. He is a player who can
control the game’s flow and act as a link between attack and defence, which will perfectly complement McKenna’s upbeat style of play.
Regarding Rigo’s qualities, Kvasnica stated: “You can’t say that he’s a typical eight, six, or ten.” He makes a lovely connection between
everything.
It would be a no-brainer for McKenna, or any Championship team, to get a player of that calibre and with such high potential for
under £3.5 million.
In addition to being able to generate a solid profit for the Tractor Boys in the future, Rigo might be the innovative cog that Ipswich
needs this season to earn promotion.
