How Marvin Ducksch could transform Birmingham City’s attack – something he did in 2023/24 was top class

Birmingham City, who are hoping to achieve consecutive promotions under Chris Davies, enjoyed an incredible transfer window on their return to the Championship.

With the recent arrivals of Kyogo Furuhashi, Demarai Grey, and Tommy Doyle, St. Andrew’s US owners have once again demonstrated their support for the manager by making high-profile acquisitions.

The Blues appear to have the majority of their roster set up even though the season is just a few weeks away, but they are still trying to improve. FLW exclusively revealed that the Midlands team is close to signing Werder Bremen’s Marvin Ducksch.

Marvin Ducksch can instantly add to Birmingham City’s attack

Ducksch is a short-term addition at age 31, and his goal is to assist the Blues qualify for the Premier League this year.

Fans will instinctively glance to Ducksch’s goal total as a forward, and it’s safe to say that it’s encouraging.

In the Bundesliga II, Germany’s version of the Championship, he has a stellar record, having scored 70 goals in his last 128 games. Even more impressively, Ducksch has scored 12, 12, and 8 goals in the last three Bundesliga seasons, demonstrating his consistency as a top-flight goal scorer.

So, Blues would be getting a player who is in his prime and capable of finding the net on a consistent basis.

Marvin Ducksch will provide Birmingham City with a different threat in the final third

That isn’t the entire picture, though, because Ducksch is much more than just a goal threat. Over the years, he has

put up some incredible numbers when it comes to setting up opportunities for himself and his teammates.

First of all, Ducksch has recorded 10 and 9 assists over his last two seasons, which is a fantastic return and

demonstrates that he is a selfless player with the foresight and poise to choose the best choice when the chance

presents itself.

If you look more closely, you can see that such stats weren’t the result of chance; Ducksch was among the top in

2023–2024 and ranked highly for producing shots throughout the Bundesliga.

Ducksch’s Werder Bremen career stats (all comps)—per FotMob
Season Appearances Goals Assists Avg. match rating
24/25 (Bundesliga) 36 9 10 7.3/10
23/24 (Bundesliga) 34 13 9 7.3/10
22/23 (Bundesliga) 35 12 6 7.3/10
21/22 (Bundesliga II) 29 20 9 8/10

That elevated him above players like Wout Weghorst and Niclas Füllkrug, two target men with Premier League

experience who were renowned for their ability to pull others into action.

It’s safe to argue that Ducksch is a creative attacker given his high scoring averages for both progressive and

completed passes. It should be emphasised that he is playing in the Bundesliga, which is unquestionably a higher

level than the Championship.

Kyogo Furuhashi could benefit from Marvin Ducksch’s arrival at Birmingham City

Therefore, it will be hard for Blues fans not to get excited about what he could add to the team, and one player who

will be relishing the prospect of linking up with Ducksch is Furuhashi.

The former Celtic striker’s movement is without a doubt his best quality; he is the kind of number nine that is

constantly playing on the shoulder and searching for opportunities.

Ducksch appears to be the perfect companion for him, and the two of them have the background and talent to

continue wreaking havoc at this level.

It’s unclear where that will leave Jay Stansfield, but Davies has a good problem as Birmingham is assembling a team

that many of its opponents will be envious of.
