Huddersfield Town & Lee Grant urged to push to sign another Ipswich Town player after Marcus Harness

After his contract at Portman Road was not renewed, Marcus Harness is scheduled to join the Terriers on a free transfer on July 1. This raises concerns about the role Lee Grant played in the decision and whether any other Ipswich players would soon follow suit to John Smith’s Stadium.

Although Huddersfield Town has lofty goals to leave League One in the 2025–2026 season, Ipswich had spent the previous season constructing a low-end Premier League team, therefore it’s unlikely that many other Ipswich players would be ready to drop to the third division.

However, there might still be one or two available, and Cameron Humphreys is someone the Terriers could look at before the new season starts, according to FLW’s Huddersfield fan analyst, Graham Rayner.

When asked if he thought Huddersfield could seek any realistic options at Ipswich Town this summer, Rayner made a small joke.

“I believe they had Liam Delap, a young striker, who could do well. Lee Grant might be able to convince him to downgrade to League One in order to establish himself, but you never know!”

Delap has subsequently decided to sign with Premier League powerhouse Chelsea, which is unfortunate for Terriers supporters. Fortunately, Rayner had a fallback plan in case that one didn’t work out.

Cameron Humphreys, 21, was a vital member of the team that appeared to be headed for the top two spots in League One, missing just four league games throughout the previous campaign while on loan at Wycombe Wanderers.

Goals 7
Assists 6
Chances Created 45
Duels won 200
Fouls won 81

Rayner remarked, “He’s the most realistic,” He has a lot of talent, is young, and is versatile.

“Wycombe had a fantastic season last season, and he played a lot of games for them. They were a decent team that played in the playoffs the entire season, even though they obviously didn’t get promoted.

“He or perhaps one of the goalkeepers if Lee Nichols departs would be my choice if I were to guess who else we might raid Ipswich for.

“It would be interesting to see if something happens there.”

Although the club has the option to extend it for an additional year, Cameron Humphreys’ current contract, which he signed in January 2023 for three and a half years, is about to expire.

Despite being a useful backup during the Tractor Boys’ run to the Championship, he only made three league appearances in 2023–2024. Humphreys had a really strong season last year, and he will want to carry on the momentum into the next one.

The only problem is that, despite his versatility, Humphreys might still fall behind players like Conor Chaplin or even Leif Davis in Ipswich’s hierarchy, and a move away—either permanently or on loan—might be imminent.

The 21-year-old demonstrated his ability to be a top League One operator at Adams Park last season with 13 goal contributions. Although Ipswich will probably want him to compete in the Championship the next season, Lee Grant, one of their former managers, could be able to convince him to stay in the third division for one more season.
