Huddersfield Town next manager: Ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County man emerges as ‘option’

Former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant has reportedly emerged as an option for the Huddersfield Town job.

Following a disappointing 2024/25 season, the Terriers are preparing for a much more fun 2025/26 campaign.

Relegation to the Championship was followed by a tenth-place finish in League One, further frustrating the John Smith’s Stadium supporters.
Michael Duff was fired in March, but the Huddersfield administration chose not to hire a permanent replacement to finish out the season.
Jon Worthington, the academy manager, took over but was unable to restore the club’s campaign.

According to reporter Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, Grant has surfaced as an unexpected candidate to replace the head coaching post.

Huddersfield Town’s head coach hunt

Grant has never managed previously, however he has been working as a first-team coach with Ipswich Town since 2022.
He has been a crucial member of Kieran McKenna’s team, but the two were unable to keep the Tractor Boys in the Premier League.

Huddersfield have also been linked with former Hull City boss Ruben Selles, with Grant reported to be a competition to him for the job.

Lee Grant’s CV

Grant spent 22 years as a goalkeeper before taking on the coaching post at Ipswich Town.

He concluded as an understudy at Manchester United after previously appearing for Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County, and Burnley.

The 42-year-old spent three years at Hillsborough from 2007 to 2010, making 145 appearances for the Owls.

Huddersfield Town’s rebuild job

Lee Grant represented Sheffield Wednesday between 2007 and 2010.

The Terriers have made it obvious that they want a fresh start this summer, having parted ways with a number of senior players and coach Kevin Russell.

Scrutiny from the stands increased as their 2024/25 season stalled, and Huddersfield owner Kevin Nagle is now under pressure to improve.

Speaking earlier this month, Nagle said: “In all my years of being in team ownership, across all sports, I have never had one collapse like this mid-season.

“That is one of the diseases we plan to eradicate this offseason, among other things. It begins with leadership and culture.”
