Huddersfield Town transfers: Chelsea teenager becomes signing number 12

HUDDERSFIELD Town have sealed their 12th signing of the summer window after bringing in Chelsea attacking midfielder Leo Castledine on a season-long loan.

Castledine, 19, has already trained frequently with the Chelsea first team and been included in many match-day squads. Town has used their close ties with the West London club’s personnel to bring in another Blues loanee.

The teenager had experience playing with Josh Feeney, a new Terriers teammate, while on loan at Shrewsbury Town in League One last season.

Castledine, who made 26 appearances across all competitions while playing in a central midfield position, has being targeted as a number 10 option at Accu Stadium.

“I’m delighted to welcome Leo to the club and we thank Chelsea for helping us to conclude the deal smoothly and giving us the opportunity to develop one of their exciting young talents,” Town manager Lee Grant said of Castledine, who has captained his country and represented England from under-15 to under-19 levels.

We’re all excited to work with Leo and help him improve his game and contribute to the club this season. He’s a player with a lot of potential, and I’ve followed his career attentively.

“I’m aware of the history the club has had with loan arrivals from Chelsea, and we certainly hope Leo’s time with us will be a similar story of success.” During our chats, Leo’s passion and desire to grow truly impressed me, and he now contributes to the team’s competitive spirit. The entire team will have a role to play because the season is long. We are eager to collaborate with Leo and are thrilled to have him join the team.”

Castledine said: “I’m thrilled to have joined Huddersfield Town and am incredibly thrilled about this chance.

“I wanted to learn more as soon as I heard about the interest, and after hearing what the manager had to say, I was positive that this was the greatest club for my growth.

“Although I am aware that I am not the first player to sign a loan from Chelsea to Huddersfield Town, the guys that came before me all performed admirably here and went on to have incredible careers.

“I can only hope that I can have the same impact here and use this experience to become better, and I’ll work hard to make that the case.”
