Huge Emergency Response to Fire in Bognor Regis
A major emergency response was launched late last night following a serious fire at a property on Station Road in Bognor Regis.
The blaze broke out at around 11pm on Wednesday night, prompting the swift arrival of three fire engines – two from Bognor Regis and one from Chichester. Firefighters quickly descended on the scene to tackle the flames, which had engulfed part of the residential building, sparking concern among local residents.
Photos taken at the scene show a significant response not only from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service but also from South East Coast Ambulance Service and Sussex Police. Two ambulances and no fewer than six police vehicles were spotted parked along Station Road as emergency crews worked well into the night.
A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident, saying:
“We were called to a property fire on Station Road, Bognor Regis, shortly after 11pm. Three appliances were dispatched to the scene, where crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using hose reel jets. Thankfully, all persons were accounted for and there were no serious injuries reported.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. However, early reports suggest it may have started in the kitchen area of the property, although this has yet to be officially confirmed.
Residents in the area reported hearing sirens and seeing flashing blue lights flooding the street late at night. One witness, who lives opposite the affected property, described the scene as “chaotic but professional.”
“I heard shouting and then saw all the blue lights coming down the road. Firefighters were running in and out of the house. You could see smoke coming from the windows. It was quite scary,” the witness said.
Police officers cordoned off a section of Station Road to allow emergency vehicles access and to keep onlookers at a safe distance. The area remained closed off for several hours while crews ensured the fire was fully extinguished and began investigations.
Paramedics at the scene are believed to have treated at least one person for smoke inhalation, but there were no immediate reports of any serious injuries or fatalities. The quick and coordinated response of the emergency services has been credited with preventing further escalation of the situation.
In a social media post, Sussex Police thanked the public for their cooperation during the incident and confirmed that officers would remain in the area into Thursday morning as part of routine safety checks and ongoing investigations.
This incident has once again highlighted the vital role of emergency services in responding swiftly and effectively to potentially life-threatening situations. More updates will follow as the fire service releases further details about the incident and its cause.
