Hull City remain keen on loaned out Huddersfield Town player this summer

Hull City boss Ruben Selles remains a ‘keen admirer’ of loaned out Huddersfield Town winger Sorba Thomas, as per a report by HullLive.

Hull City were interested in signing the attacker during the January transfer window, but HCAFC were unable to reach an agreement and instead pursued other prospects. He is currently on loan in France with Nantes but is expected to return to England this summer.
Thomas, 26, has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal and assisting twice. He is a Wales international, having earned 16 caps in his career.

According to HullLive, the Tigers’ renewed pursuit of him this summer ‘cannot be ruled out’. However, their prospects of signing him will be determined by the league they play in next season.

Hull City remain keen on Huddersfield Town’s Sorba Thomas

Hull City would still need to be in the Championship to bring in Thomas. They are currently trying to avoid relegation to League One.

Thomas was a member of the Huddersfield Town team that dropped into the third tier last year. When Nantes called, the Terriers allowed him go out the escape door temporarily.

His contract with the West Yorkshire outfit expires in June 2026. That means they risk losing him for nothing next year if they don’t sell him during the next window or in January.

Thomas signed his latest contract extension with Huddersfield Town in 2022, and their previous manager, Carlos Corberan, said their website at the time: “Sorba has demonstrated that, in football, mentality and drive can make a great difference in the development of players. He’s an extremely competitive player who has played more minutes than any other outfielder – only injuries have kept him from playing more.”

The Londoner joined the John Smith’s Stadium in 2021 and has since scored seven goals in 114 games. He was loaned to Blackburn Rovers for the second half of the 2022/23 season.

Thomas played for Boreham Wood from 2015 to 2021, scoring eight goals in 95 appearances in the National League.

What now for Hull City?

Hull City are two points above the relegation zone with five games remaining. They play Coventry City at home on Monday night.

Time will tell whether the Tigers pursue Thomas again. His immediate future is uncertain.
