‘I am not the only one’…Arne Engels breaks his silence on Atalanta’s interest in Celtic record signing

Arne Engels is about to finish his debut season with Celtic and is already attracting attention.

Engels was signed on transfer deadline day for a club record sum of £11 million, and he has showed tremendous quality for Celtic at times while also frustrating them.

The Belgian international has 10 goals this season and is a regular in Brendan Rodgers’ starting lineup. That has aroused Atalanta, who are rumoured to be interested in signing Engels this summer.

Only 21, the midfielder has a bright future ahead of him, and while a move to Serie A may appear appealing, Engels is focused solely on Celtic.

Dalziel wants James Forrest to start for Celtic against Aberdeen.

Much of the speculation around the cup final has been whether Rodgers will start James Forrest, Adam Idah, or Nicolas Kuhn.

Kuhn struggled against St Mirren, and Idah was unable to score. Forrest was the hero on Trophy Day, scoring a Celtic goal for the 16th straight season. Open Goal expert Gordon Dalziel believes Forrest’s current form merits a starting position at Hampden on Saturday.

The former Rangers striker acknowledges that whether or not Forrest starts is all that matters heading into the Scottish Cup final.

Dalziel stated, “My main fear with the Cup Final is one thing. I’m solely interested in seeing if Forrest will start.

“I thought he did well against them at Pittodrie, and then he scores (against St Mirren). But who are you leaving out? Do you leave out Idah and play (Daizen) Maeda in the middle? “I’d like to see Forrest come in because I believe he’s in some form right now.”

I felt he was fantastic on Wednesday night, and then going on (against St Mirren) was a confidence booster with that goal. “I’d go with Forrest and Maeda across the centre. But Idah scores almost every week, and he scores in important games.”

Rodgers has a Celtic attacking issue to solve.

Rodgers is set to start Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn, despite the latter being overshadowed by Forrest last weekend. So it will be a tie between Idah and Forrest.

Dalziel reminds out that Idah has 20 goals for the Hoops this season and was the star of the show last year at Hampden.

He has been in fantastic form, despite the fact that some Celtic fans continue to criticise him. Forrest has also been excellent recently, but he has performed better off the bench. That is likely to come to Rodgers’ mind.

Forrest has terrorised Aberdeen and St Mirren’s tired defenders as a replacement in recent games, so why won’t the Celtic manager continue with him?
