‘I don’t think…’: BBC journalist makes bold Dejphon Chansiri claim as Sheffield Wednesday owner ignores fan outcry

BBC journalist Rob Staton has made the suggestion that he does not believe Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is rushing towards a sale of the club.

Sheffield Wednesday has dealt with a number of issues this summer, both on and off the pitch.

Sheffield Wednesday’s first team continues to defy expectations after earning a fantastic point away to Wrexham, but this should not overshadow the reality caused by unpopular owner Dejphon Chansiri. The club has been put through the ringer this summer, with numerous players leaving for pastures new after the Sheffield Wednesday owner left personnel in the dark about unpaid salaries. From the outside, it appears like Chansiri does not have the financial backing he once had, but BBC correspondent Rob Staton has proposed an alternate explanation for the Owls owner’s recent acts and conduct.

Reporter on the possibility that Dejphon Chansiri does not want to sell Sheffield Wednesday

In a report for the BBC, Rob Staton stated that he does not believe Dejphon Chansiri is interested in selling Sheffield Wednesday at this time. Regarding the uncertainty of Chansiri’s funding to run Sheffield Wednesday, Staton claims: “If everyone is paid on time in August, it will signal the owner has the cash to keep going, at least in the short term. Match day revenue, for example, will generate income. “Whilst Chansiri can keep things ticking along, there’s a good chance he’ll crack on.

“The reason Sheffield Wednesday hasn’t been sold is not down to a lack of interested buyers. The difficulty is an owner who looks unwilling to sell.” The one area which baffles Staton on Chansiri, however, are his ‘motives’ due to the fact that ‘the worth of the club is not going to improve in its current state’. Staton concludes: “Chansiri might make it obvious what his intentions are by communicating. Yet there’s just been one statement this summer.”

Lack of communication has affected every level of the club

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has seemingly gone off the grid amid all of the concern in recent months.

The situation at the club is quite concerning, yet the individual commonly regarded responsible has been radio silence. If the owner provided transparency, as Rob Staton wants, about his current predicament and where his allegiance lie in terms of keeping the club afloat, the crowd would be significantly less hostile. The lack of communication has served as a trigger for escalating the intensity of the issues in S6, and it is still unclear whether Chansiri intends to keep his ownership.
