The latest Sheffield Wednesday team news as Danny Rohl’s side gear up to face Stoke City in the Championship.
Sheffield Wednesday will be out to pick up three points on Good Friday as they face Stoke City later this afternoon.
Sheffield Wednesday come into their first Easter weekend fixture looking to rediscover some form in the Championship. SWFC are winless in five, drawing two and losing three.
The Owls sit 14th in the Championship table and already have a mid-table finish pretty much confirmed. They’re 11 points above the drop and 10 behind the play-offs, so while neither relegation nor promotion are mathematically impossible, they are incredibly unlikely.
Last time out, Danny Rohl’s side were beaten 1-0 by Oxford United on home turf. Wednesday were undone by a Sam Long goal with just over 10 minutes remaining.
As for Stoke City, they come into the Sheffield Wednesday game still fighting for survival. Stronger form has improved their chances though, with a late win over Cardiff City last time out moving the Potters five points above the bottom three.
Sheffield Wednesday team news
Owls boss Rohl confirmed three doubts for the Good Friday fixture while speaking to the press earlier this week.
Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan missed the Oxford United loss and is one of the doubts for today’s game too. Rohl confirmed the club legend is eager to play, but a late test will determine whether he can be involved.
The availability of Michael Ihiekwe and Anthony Musaba is also uncertain too. The centre-back and the winger started against the U’s and Ihiekwe played all 90 minutes, but both could be absent here.
Akin Famewo and Yan Valery have recently made successful returns to the SWFC starting XI.
Predicted XI
(4-2-3-1)
Charles; Valery, Iorfa, Famewo, Hatsuse; Charles, Ingelsson; Gassama, Windass, Cissoko; Ugbo.
