Ipswich Town: Ali Al-Hamadi given red card in Iraq defeat.

Ali Al-Hamadi of Ipswich Town received a straight red card in the first half of Iraq’s defeat against South Korea Friday night.
The 23-year-old made his first national team appearance since September 2024, leading the line at the Basra International Stadium to earn his 15th cap. However, with 24 minutes remaining, Al-Hamadi caught Cho Yu-Min with a high boot, which was initially awarded as a free kick. The referee was then summoned to the VAR monitor to review the foul, deciding to issue a red card. The visitors didn’t score until the 63rd minute, when Jin-Gyu Kim did, then Hyun-Gyu Oh sealed the win with eight minutes left.
As a result, Iraq will no longer be able to qualify automatically for the 2026 World Cup; instead, they will go to the next round of qualifying. Jordan, on the other hand, will compete alongside South Korea at next summer’s competition. Iraq will play Jordan at the Ammam International Stadium on Tuesday, June 10th (7:15pm), although Al-Hamadi will be unavailable due to his first senior red card.
