Ipswich Town hijack Charlotte FC 24-year-old striker deal from Derby County

Report: Patrick Agyemang Drawing Interest from Derby County, Ipswich Town

Charlotte FC forward Patrick Agyemang could be making a big move this summer, with Championship sides Derby County and Ipswich Town reportedly interested in securing his services. According to journalist Tom Bogert of GiveMeSport, the 24-year-old is also attracting attention from Belgian Pro League side Genk, making him one of the more in-demand MLS talents on the market right now.

Agyemang has enjoyed a breakout year in 2025, both domestically and internationally. The East Hartford native has not only been a key figure for Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer, but he has also emerged as a new star for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT). So far this season, he has registered eight goals and two assists in all competitions for his club. But perhaps more impressively, he has already notched five goals in just nine caps for the USMNT since making his debut in January.

Currently with the national team at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Agyemang continues to make headlines. He scored the decisive goal in the final group stage match against Haiti, securing top spot for the United States. He also found the net against Trinidad & Tobago, pouncing on a deflected shot from teammate Diego Luna. His knack for important goals and dynamic forward play has made him a standout name on Gregg Berhalter’s roster.

Agyemang’s rapid rise has not gone unnoticed in Europe. Derby County and Ipswich Town—both keen to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new Championship season—see him as a player with huge upside. Ipswich, fresh off their promotion to the Premier League in 2024 and subsequent relegation, are hoping to bounce straight back up. Derby, meanwhile, are building under new leadership and looking to inject energy and quality into their frontline.

Belgian outfit Genk is also monitoring the striker closely. The club has a strong history of developing talent and selling players on to top-five European leagues, which could make them an appealing landing spot for Agyemang as he weighs his next move.

Charlotte FC are reportedly bracing for offers, aware that this summer may represent their best chance to capitalize on the forward’s rising profile. With his contract situation undisclosed, it remains to be seen whether the MLS side will demand a significant fee or consider a structured deal with incentives.

Agyemang’s decision will likely hinge on playing time and development opportunities. For now, his focus remains on the Gold Cup, but if his form continues, a move to Europe seems inevitable. Whether it’s to England’s Championship or Belgium’s top flight, Patrick Agyemang looks poised to take the next step in a rapidly ascending career.
