Ipswich Town: Kieran McKenna the bookies’ favourite for Brentford job

Ipswich Town: Kieran McKenna the bookies’ favourite for Brentford job.

Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, is the bookmakers’ favourite to take over as Brentford manager after Thomas Frank left for Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs fired Ange Postecoglou last week, only days after winning the Europa League. Finally, concerns over last season’s league finish (17th) were too great to ignore. They proceeded rapidly to find a replacement and have now appointed Frank as their new manager. The Dane joined Brentford in 2018, bringing them from the Championship to the Premier League.

He has now decided to relocate to North London and take on his second career in English football. The Bees were eager to keep Justin Cochrane at the club and appointed him as their new manager, thus he was established as the early favourite. McKenna now leads the list on BetVictor after following Frank to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (odds are 4/5). McKenna, on the other hand, is ranked second (6/4 by Bet365). Keith Andrews, Brentford’s set-piece coach and former Ipswich loanee, is their current frontrunner (8/11). The Northern Irishman is widely reported to be Brentford’s first pick, however Burnley manager Scott Parker is also said to be on the shortlist.

McKenna was linked with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Brighton last summer, but finally chose to sign a new long-term contract at Portman Road. When asked if he was committed to staying with Ipswich before relegation was confirmed, he replied: “The quick answer is absolutely. “I am still pleased here. This year was always going to be challenging. One of the reasons I wanted to stay last year was because I knew it would be a tremendous task. “I believed that was the correct thing to do. And, as I’ve mentioned several times, I believe the club has a very bright future in a variety of ways. I think it’s a club that’s on the up, irrespective of a possible, you can say a probable, backward step this year.

“I believe there is still a great opportunity to make significant progress over the next few years.” So I’m thrilled to be a part of that. I’m honoured to lead it. “I was proud to lead the club while we were in League One.” I was proud to lead the club when we were in the Championship, and I am equally proud to lead it again in the Premier League. So that does not significantly alter my perspective. “We’re already looking forward to it, regardless of the division we’re in. We’re already looking forward to taking the club forward.”
