Ipswich Town: Matt Clarke signs new deal at Derby County.

Matt Clarke, a former Ipswich Town teenager, has signed a three-year contract with Championship club Derby County. In January, the 28-year-old defender returned to Pride Park for a third tenure on a short-term contract after leaving Middlesbrough.

Clarke played an important part for John Eustace, making 16 games and scored one goal as they survived relegation on a dramatic final day. He previously spent time on loan at Derby from Brighton during the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons. The Suffolk-born centre-back progressed through Town’s development ranks, making five professional appearances before Mick McCarthy used him in a player-plus-cash (£750k) deal for Adam Webster in 2016. Clarke will face Kieran McKenna’s men next season following Town’s relegation from the Premier League.
