Ipswich Town vs. Brentford: Head-to-head record and past meetings
On Saturday afternoon, Brentford will travel to Portman Road to play Ipswich Town, who have already been
demoted in the Premier League.
A run of three straight victories, including last weekend’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester United, has propelled
the Bees to ninth place in the standings, one point behind Bournemouth in eighth place. The team is still hoping to
qualify for Europe for the first time in its existence.
Ipswich, on the other hand, is only playing for pride in their final three Premier League games and will be looking to
avoid dropping their eighth consecutive home game this weekend.
Ipswich Town and Brentford have faced each other a total of 19 times across all competitions and it is the Tractor
Boys who marginally lead the overall head-to-head record having posted seven wins to the Bees’ six, while there have
also been six draws played out between the two clubs.
Their very first meeting took place back in November 1955 when Brentford secured a 3-2 home win over Ipswich in
the old Division Three South, but the Bees followed that up by failing to win any of their next eight encounters with
the Tractor Boys in all competitions.
Indeed, Ipswich won four EFL Cup ties during this period between 1966 and 2004, three in the first round and one
in the second round, before the two teams would meet again for the first time in the Championship in the 2014-15
season.
In their first Championship meeting in December 2014, Brentford lost 4-2 at home to Ipswich, however that was just
one of two losses in ten games in the second division (W4 D4).
After losing 2-0 against Brentford in April 2019, the Tractor Boys were relegated to the third division that season.
However, they recovered with consecutive promotions in 2022–2023 and 2023–2024, making their Premier League
comeback for the first time in more than 20 years.
Ipswich and Brentford lock horns in the top flight for the first time in October 2024 and it was the Bees who came
out on top in a seven-goal thriller, winning 4-3 at the Getch Community Stadium.
