Ipswich Town’s top 5 earners contracted to be relegated into the Championship

The team’s top players, some of whom are still under contract on top-flight salaries, are expected to return to the Championship after what is expected to be a brief stint in the Premier League.

The fact that four of the five highest-paid players on the team are either loanees or have contracts expiring at the end of the current campaign gives the Tractor Boys some comfort. Others, however, might not experience a salary decrease as a result of moving down to the second tier.

Based on Capology predictions, these are the top five earners who might return for the upcoming season and what that might entail for Ipswich’s spending plan and goals.

Muric arrived with Premier League experience and Manchester City coaching after being signed from Burnley for £15.00 million last summer, but his stay in East Anglia has not been smooth.

He lost the No. 1 shirt early due to a rocky start between the sticks, first to Christian Walton’s backup and then to Alex Palmer of West Brom, who came in January as a permanent upgrade.

Muric’s future is uncertain now that he has been benched, but his contract expires in 2028, and he will return to the Championship with Ipswich the following season on an anticipated salary of £35,000 per week until a buyer comes along.

O’Shea, a dependable defensive player, was the eleventh player signed by Ipswich during their first promotion window.

The Republic of Ireland international, who brought experience and poise from his time at West Brom, where he made over 100 games, signed from Burnley in a move worth £12 million plus £3 million in add-ons.

O’Shea, who also commands a Premier League-level salary, appears destined to be a part of the rebuild with a long contract that extends until 2029 at an estimated £35,000 per week.

Johnson joined Ipswich on a free transfer in search of consistent playing time after spending 17 years at West Ham. Even though he had a difficult start at Portman Road, he became better as the season went on.

Still, doubts remain about whether he’s a long-term answer or simply a costly squad player, earning an estimated weekly wage of £30,000.

Johnson’s contract is set to expire in 2028, so unless a transfer or wage renegotiation is in the works, the club may have to bear the cost of his salary.
