Ipswich Transport Museum schedule of May open days.
The Ipswich Transport Museum has released its May schedule of open days and special activities. The museum will be closed on May 4 for the 53rd Annual Ipswich to Felixstowe Historic Vehicle Run. More than 500 automobiles will gather at Christchurch Park before departing at 11 a.m. The vehicles will then be lined up along Felixstowe’s promenade for public observation. On May 18, the museum will host a Mini Bus Running Day to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the first motor bus service in Ipswich. Visitors will be able to board the museum’s green buses and some visiting vehicles.
The museum will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following days: May 11, 18, 25, 5, 24, and 26. It will also be open from 1pm to 4pm on May 27, 28, and 29. Museum volunteers spent the winter refurbishing exhibits. Some vehicles have been sent to storage, while others have left the museum. The museum also finished development on a one-third scale Commer Fire Engine, which now greets younger visitors with a “shout” and video screens depicting a real call-out.
The museum provides a glimpse into the past, as well as refreshments from the Sunbeam Tea Room and a gift store with souvenirs. Friendly volunteer stewards will be on hand to provide additional information. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the office is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. When the office is not staffed, visitors can leave their contact information and messages via a 24-hour answerphone service. Monthly updates to the museum’s website will include additional open days and special event dates.
