Anel Ahmedhodžić, who left Sheffield United for Feyenoord this summer, admits he was surprised by the move. 1908.nl covers comments made by the defender in an interview with ESPN on his first few weeks with the Dutch club. Ahmedhodžić signed for Feyenoord for €6.9 million earlier this month, with the Dutch club aiming to have him fit for the season’s start. It meant his departure from Sheffield United was fast, and he was immediately put into a Champions League third round qualification double-header against Fenerbahce.
He’s also made his Eredivisie debut, playing 90 minutes in a 2-0 victory over NAC Breda last week to kick off the season. It’s been a stunning turnaround for the player, who had previously spent three years with Sheffield United following a €4.5 million transfer in 2022. And he says he didn’t expect the switch this summer. “It happened really fast, sure. I didn’t expect it either. Football is wild. “One day you’re in Sheffield, the next in Rotterdam,” he explained.
With his move to Feyenoord, he has reunited with Dutch icon Robin van Persie, who is now in charge of his old team. Ahmedhodžić admits he played a big role in convincing him to make the transfer. “I was already convinced when he called me. “We spoke for five minutes, and I was sold,” he said.
