Notts County boss Martin Paterson says he is hurting following his side’s stoppage-time defeat at Barrow on Saturday.
Lewis Shipley’s goal seven minutes into extra time handed Barrow their first win of the season, leaving County with one point from their first three League Two games.
“It does hurt,” Paterson said BBC Radio Nottingham after the match.
“There are many various reasons why you talk about hurting.
“It might be easier if you only concentrate on the last minute. What stings the most is that we start the first half looking completely different.
“[Giving away] easy passes, not stuff we’ve worked on, and that’s where my candor may bring me up for criticism.
“The first [Barrow] goal is a high-pressure moment, and we’re really passive. We do not work on that.
“We appear to be quite simple to score against in those rapid periods. We must accomplish so much to achieve our aim. “The first-half performance is inadequate.”
‘We’re in a little sticky spell’
Despite County’s sluggish start to the season, Paterson is certain he can improve the Magpies’ fortunes.
“I am not worried. “What I need to do right away is dig it out and get rid of it,” he explained.
“I understand that it takes us a long time to get up the field.
“In the second half, we had a response to the first-half performance, although I’m tired of saying it, to be honest.
“In the second half, we dominated the ball, passing it accurately and forward, and we began to dash in behind, looking like ourselves again.
“We’re in a little sticky period, and there’s no denying it.
“It’s almost as if we’re 50% terrible and 50% good. However, in the terrible, we do not stay inside the game and dig it out, and in the good, we do not punish sufficiently. “I accept full responsibility for that.”
