The Spaniard left Hull City at the end of the previous season after the Tigers avoided relegation. However, the Blades have lost each of their first four games this season, leaving them at the bottom of the standings during the September international break. While it is still early in the season, the 42-year-old is already under pressure to preserve his place at Bramall Lane.
Ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl dismissed as potential Sheffield United option if Blades sack Selles
When asked if Sheffield United may turn to Danny Rohl if Selles is fired, Patrick McKenna, a Sheffield Wednesday fan analyst for Football League World, completely dismissed the idea. He believes the German is not a good fit for the Owls’ fierce rivals, and that someone like Chris Wilder or Neil Warnock would be a better fit.
“I think, first of all, you have to understand that there was a daft rumour going about in the summer that he had chatted to them, but it was nonsense and it seemed to be part of an art of Rohl going about exaggerating the sort of contact he was having with clubs,” McKenna told Football League World at the time. “But, to be honest, Danny Rohl will get a better job than showing up at a club like Sheffield United.” “He is a highly talented manager who will get to the top, so why would you go to the bottom and shuffle down to Bramall Lane?
“You can already tell that some of them want Wilder back. “Their fans want a manager like Wilder or Warnock who can come in and cater to them with a chip on his shoulder. “So, having someone like Danny Rohl come in with professionalism, intelligence, and charisma would be ineffective. “So, yeah, I doubt Danny would ever go there.
“So the Blades, as far as I’m concerned, can struggle on with Ruben Selles, and if they are to get in a new manager, I’m sorry, but it’s not going to be Danny Rohl.” Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United occupy two of the three relegation spots in the early stages of the season. The Owls won a point against Wrexham, putting them ahead of their fiercest rivals, with the two sides not meeting until November 23rd.
Danny Rohl will have better options that Sheffield United
Rohl deserves a lot of credit for his work at Hillsborough, and there’s little doubt he’ll be back coaching shortly. The troubles behind the scenes at Sheffield Wednesday held him back, but guiding that team from near-certain relegation to 12th in the Championship in 18 months has substantially improved his reputation. It would be surprising if he turned up at Bramall Lane, given that he could be searching for top-tier job elsewhere.
A return to Germany could be on the cards in the near future, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he signed with a Championship promotion-chasing side or even a faltering Premier League club.
