Oldham Athletic boost goalkeeper ranks with Tom Donaghy deal
Oldham Athletic have reinforced their goalkeeper ranks by retaining Tom Donaghy.
The 22-year-old, who made a positive impact after signing from Fleetwood in February, has penned a two-year deal.
It’s a double keeper boost for Latics, who have today secured Mat Hudson on a deal until 2028.
Donahy made 10 appearances for Latics last season while Hudson recovered from a broken finger. But he insists he hasn’t committed his future to Oldham just to make up the numbers.
“I want to push as much as I can to play as many games as possible,” said the Leeds-born stopper.
“Mat is a fantastic goalkeeper, but healthy competition can only help us both.
“I’m really proud to be staying at Oldham. Since I came in February, I’ve felt a real connection with the club.
“The environment here is excellent, there’s great staff, great players and I want to keep improving and help the team wherever I can.”
Goalkeeping coach Scott Davies added: “Tom came in mid-season and immediately impressed. He trains hard, learns quickly, and adds healthy competition in goal.
“We’re delighted he’s committed his future to us.
“His attitude is excellent, he’s willing to learn and train hard on a daily basis, they’re the characters we want in the group, so we’re delighted to bring Tom back.”
