QPR have reportedly held talks with former Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, who was relieved of his duties at Carrow Road last month.

The Hoops have placed Marti Cifuentes on gardening leave, effectively removing his managerial duties while still holding his contract. This allows another club to compensate him for his services.

QPR is considering replacing Cifuentes with the former Norwich manager, according to John Percy of The Telegraph. Negotiations have already begun between the two parties.

“Would be embarrassing” – Johannes Hoff Thorup, backed for future success

QPR finished just one point and two places below Norwich City in the Championship this season, but the R’s believe Thorup can help them climb the table after a third consecutive finish in the bottom half of the second tier.

According to FLW’s Norwich City fan pundit Zeke Downes, Thorup could be a good fit at Loftus Road if that is the path they choose.

“There’s a good reason why QPR have held talks with Thorup over their manager position, because I think he’ll end up being a really good manager and it’s a shame that it’s not with us,” Zeke told the BBC.

“For whatever reason, it stopped working near the end of his time with us, but that’s partly due to the players slowing down and clearly putting in less effort, which is not ideal.

“There were a lot of injuries throughout the season, so I believe he got unlucky. He brought in a lot of new players, but they were inexperienced and needed time to adjust.

“I believe he will do well elsewhere, and I wish him the best. “I hope he does well, but not enough to overtake us and get QPR into the play-offs, which would be embarrassing.”

Johannes Hoff Thorup will have a point to prove after the Norwich City axe.

Thorup’s tenure at Norwich ended on a sour note, with the team losing six of their last eight games and falling out of contention for the play-offs.

Wins 14
Draws 14
Defeats 19
Win Percentage 29.79%

Thorup’s Achilles’ heel was inexperience, but that was to be expected when the 36-year-old was appointed, with a long-term vision as the ultimate goal.

However, the club has decided to take a different approach for next season. Despite a 30% win rate, Norwich showed potential last year.

The Canaries finished the season as the division’s second-highest goal scorers, and Thorup’s free-flowing, exciting brand of football has sparked interest from other clubs.

Surrounding his defensive organisation will be a priority for the Dane wherever he goes, but some new personnel may help.

Whether at QPR or elsewhere, the exciting young manager will be determined to prove his worth next season, possibly at the expense of his previous employer.
