‘I’ve never seen anything like it’ – Burnley man describes ‘horrifying’ moment car crashed outside his house

A startled local has recounted the “harrowing” experience of being awakened by the “loud bang” of a car smashing
outside his home on Colne Road in the wee hours of the morning.

A brief police pursuit that ended in a serious crash on Burnley’s Colne Road early in the morning resulted in the

hospitalisation of a man, as previously reported.

Today (Tuesday), at approximately 3:30 am, Lancashire Constabulary officers saw a suspicious car in Burnley. The

vehicle, a Hyundai, was involved in a brief pursuit before colliding with parked cars and street furniture on Colne

Road near Casterton Avenue. A man suspected of having brain and spinal injuries in his twenties was brought to

Royal Preston Hospital.

Shaf Latif, who owns Pendle Taxis and resides on Colne Road, claimed that he heard a loud boom in the early hours

of the morning while he was attempting to fall asleep after coming from work.

“I was just falling asleep when I heard a big bang, just like an explosion,” stated the man. “When my wife told me to
“look outdoors,” I leaped from my bed and was astounded by what I saw. Parts of the car were in pieces and the car
itself was wrecked. I saw police and ambulance personnel already on the scene as I went outside to assist, just as I
was going to call the emergency services.

“When I saw the wreckage of the car, I just couldn’t believe it. I’ve never seen anything like it. The vehicle was

harmed by pieces of debris on the road. Many other parked cars were also severely damaged in the incident.

“Shortly after, the police closed the road and cordoned off some properties in the area, including mine as they didn’t

want anyone on the crime scene while their investigations are ongoing.” The road is closed today, so I haven’t been

able to go to work or outside my house.”

Shaf went on: “I was in shock and worried about what had happened, so I haven’t been able to sleep since 4am. I

have drivers on the road all the time because I own a cab business. I’m hoping the injured man recovers completely.

A significant cleanup is underway as debris and damaged vehicles are cleared from the busy road, and police are still

on the scene. Drivers are advised to take a different route and stay away from the area.

The police are still looking for witnesses. If you have any information, please call 101.
