Uncertainty surrounds Jack Harrison’s position at Leeds United ahead of their pre-season preparations, with club sources acknowledging the complexity of his situation. The winger’s participation in this week’s tour to Stockholm for Saturday’s friendly against Manchester United remains undecided, casting significant doubt over his future at Elland Road.
Contract Situation Adds Complication
Despite having three years remaining on his Leeds contract, Harrison’s absence from the upcoming tour for non-injury reasons would strongly suggest he falls outside Daniel Farke’s plans for the new campaign. The 28-year-old, who signed a lucrative new deal in April 2023, currently commands one of the highest salaries at the club.
Loan Clause Continues to Influence Future
Harrison’s contract includes a unique provision allowing loan moves when Leeds compete outside the Premier League – a clause he activated for consecutive seasons at Everton. The Toffees, however, declined to pursue a permanent transfer this summer, leaving the player in limbo. Harrison hasn’t featured for Leeds since their relegation-sealing defeat to Tottenham in May 2023.
Mixed Legacy at Elland Road
During 206 appearances for United, Harrison contributed 34 goals and 32 assists, including a memorable 94th-minute winner against Brentford that temporarily preserved Leeds’ top-flight status in 2022. However, his decision to spend two seasons away on loan has eroded some fan goodwill, despite his £11 million transfer from Manchester City in 2021 following an initially successful loan spell.

Pre-Season Schedule Could Provide Clarity
After the Manchester United friendly, Leeds will conduct a week-long training camp in Germany before returning for fixtures against Villarreal and AC Milan (August 9 in Dublin). These preparations may reveal whether Harrison features in Farke’s vision or if his six-year association with the club is nearing its end.
