Jack Wilshere discovers chances of landing first permanent job after Norwich stint

Norwich City sacked Johannes Hoff Thorup last month and put Jack Wilshere in charge as interim manager, but while the ex-Arsenal player has made a terrific impression at Carrow Road, he won’t be taking over full time.

Despite captaining Norwich City as a caretaker for the final two games of the season, Jack Wilshere has been informed that he will not be hired on a permanent basis.

Before taking over as head coach after Johannes Hoff Thorup was fired last month, Wilshere joined the Canaries in October as a first team assistant.

After serving as a youth coach at Arsenal, Wilshere has been a well-liked employee at Carrow Road this season and is predicted to pursue a career in management.

He led Norwich to 13th position, 11 points outside the play-offs, with a 4-2 victory against Cardiff and a goalless draw against Middlesbrough.

And instead of taking a chance on Wilshere, it seems Norwich is eager to hire a more seasoned manager who can propel them to promotion.

Ben Knapper, the club’s sporting director, stated that Wilshere would make a great manager in the future, but that they will be “focused externally” in their hunt for a new manager.

“Jack is a fantastic person, he and I have a big history together,” Knapper, who was employed at Arsenal when Wilshere was a player there, told BBC Radio Norfolk.

“He is an excellent coach and will make a terrific head coach, but that is not going to happen right now.

He’s disappointed, of course. He should be since he is so ambitious, but given the situation and where we are at the moment, we are concentrating on the outside.

“The emotional part, the romantic part of me would love to make that decision but my job is to not get wrapped up in emotion and to make cool, objective decisions.”

After defender Jack Stacey predicted Wilshere would be selected for the position, Wilshere seemed to have the backing of his teammates.

“In my opinion, and I believe I can speak for the entire changing room, we would be thrilled if Jack received it,” he stated.

You want to succeed for him and believe you can give your best effort because of the way he has entered the game and given each player confidence.”

However, Wilshere had earlier denied that he would take over full-time and proposed that a new head coach be hired, stating that it would be effective if the new hire was appointed as soon as possible.

“I’ve had a lot of chats with Ben this week about a lot of things,” he stated. “(Clarity) is the finest for everyone.

Johannes’ departure wasn’t intended, but you have to adjust. Everyone will benefit if we can do it soon.

“If Ben and the club can get it done swiftly, the club will be happy. The head coach, whoever is taking over, will want to evaluate the team and determine who will take the next step.
