James McGarry on brink of permanent Aberdeen transfer exit with New Zealand full back heading back Down Under.

The defender has struggled at Pittodrie and is expected to be let go.

James McGarry is ready to return to the A-League with the Brisbane Roar. The Aberdeen defender is about to depart Pittodrie to play regular first-team action. Barry Robson recruited the New Zealand international from the Central Coast Mariners two seasons ago. McGarry has decided to return to Australia and join their A-League opponents, the Roar. The left-back spent the second half of the season on loan with Greek club Kallithea. McGarry has suffered a string of injuries during his time with the Reds. He worked hard on his game under Jimmy Thelin, but he struggled to get top-team action. Aberdeen have also signed Emmanuel Gyamfi from Schalke.

He will compete with Graeme Shinnie for the left back position. Thelin has been quite active in the market this summer, and more fresh names are anticipated to join. In addition to Gyamfi, the Dons have recruited forward Kusini Yengi, who was released by Portsmouth, keeper Nick Suman of Cove Rangers, and Western Sydney Wanderers star Nicolas Milanovic. Aberdeen, the Scottish Cup winners, are still trying to reinforce up front. Odday Dabbagh and Kevin Nisbet have returned to Chaleroi and Milwall after the completion of their respective loan periods, leaving Thelin short of numbers in the final third.
